Story
STAR - ALICIA CLARKE
PARTNER – JAMES EWART
I’m from Cooma through and through.
My fiancé Simon Bolton and I own Mainstreet. Working at Mainstreet gives me an opportunity to mix with our wider community, getting to know people and helping them to make the right decisions about what to wear!
Having a business in a small town like Cooma means you rely on local support. We have been so lucky in the support we’ve received at Mainstreet and Simon and I saw my taking part in this event as a chance to give back to the community, to say thank you.
I also work full time as a teacher of PDHPE at Monaro High School. I love the challenge of working with teenagers and young adults. I believe that with PDHPE we get to inform students about the peaks and pitfalls they’ll be faced with as they go about in society today. Armed with the right information, they can make their own informed decisions. Monaro High School were also excited and grateful for the opportunity to say thank you to our community for their ongoing support.
I’m pretty co-ordinated with a bat and ball, and any competitive sport. I like to do the best I can to ensure that other people in our community are able to develop skills and have the same opportunity to participate in sports. But when it comes to rhythm, I struggle, so watch this space as Boo, my dancing partner, and I strut our stuff (I hope)!
After getting the rhythm, my biggest challenge in doing this event will be managing my time. Juggling full time teaching, working in the shop, playing sports as well as finding time to learn to dance and do the best I can at fundraising...it’s all good, isn’t it?
Activity
Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated
The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
